Hillside Writing seeks a talented, energetic writing coach to join us in inspiring and guiding college applicants in their composing of authentic and compelling application essays. The person we aim to find is an excellent writer and editor who is experienced in supporting high school or college students with personal writing projects. An expert listener who exhibits superb communication skills, he or she enjoys the creative practice of getting to specific details and, through lively conversation and imagination, finding the path from them to effective writing. She or he finds the process of building constructive relationships with high school students at this important juncture in their lives both meaningful and motivating.

This position is a part-time, seasonal opportunity (summer + fall), perfect for a stellar teacher seeking engaging employment outside the classroom, a literary parent or freelance writer/editor wanting flexible work hours, or an established writing coach looking to expand his or her client base. The coach must live in the Boston area and be available to start coaching at our Lexington office at the beginning of June. In addition to other times, he or she must have availability to work some weekend and evening hours. The coach will be compensated for required “spring training” in Hillside’s unique practices and processes.

Hillside Writing is based in Lexington, Massachusetts, and has since 2012 provided expert instruction and guidance to writers of all ages but has specialized in supporting college applicants, setting the environment for self-discovery and meaningful essay-writing. Hillside offers flexible work schedules, competitive pay, and a supportive learning environment for sharpening and deepening coaching skills. The demand for Hillside’s attentive essay-coaching continues to grow rapidly — the right coach will step in at an exciting time of development.
